OCU women's basketball game notes at Lubbock Christian

THE MATCHUP: Oklahoma City University?s women go to Sooner Athletic Conference foe Lubbock Christian (Texas) in the second of a two-game Texas road swing.

ABOUT THE STARS: OCU won its 12th game in a row with a 79-51 victory over Wayland Baptist (Texas) on Thursday at the Hucherson Center in Plainview, Texas to move to 17-2, 8-0 in the Sooner Athletic Conference. Mariam Sy, a 6-foot-4 senior from Mali, West Africa, had 20 points, 13 rebounds and two blocks to lead the Stars. Chelsea Ledbetter, a 5-8 freshman from Blanchard, Okla., had 12 points and five assists. Alexandra Kotta, a 5-11 junior from Germantown, Md., had 10 points, sinking three 3-pointers.
Sy averages 22.6 points, 8.9 rebounds and 2.63 steals a game. Paty Silva adds 11 points a game. OCU is ranked third in NAIA Division I and was selected to finish second in the conference preseason coaches poll.
OCU leads the overall series with Lubbock Christian 21-4. The Stars defeated Lubbock Christian 83-68 on Jan. 5.

ABOUT THE LADY CHAPS: Lubbock Christian is 12-6, 6-2 in the Sooner Athletic Conference after beating St. Gregory?s 62-50 on Thursday in Lubbock, Texas. Candace Clenney, a 6-2 senior, had 14 points. Ashley Hunter, a 5-9 sophomore, averages 11.1 points a game. Lubbock Christian was fifth in the preseason conference poll.

ABOUT THE COACHES: Rob Edmisson has 327 victories in 16 seasons as a head coach. Edmisson, a graduate of Bethany (Kan.), came to OCU after a stint as an assistant at Oklahoma State. He won 200 games at Hutchinson (Kan.) and 110 as a high-school coach in Kansas.
Steve Gomez has a 44-34 record in three seasons. Gomez led the Lady Chaps to their first two NAIA Tournaments.
