OCU women's basketball vs. Central Oklahoma game notes

Oklahoma City University
vs. Central Oklahoma
Tuesday, Nov. 8
7 p.m. Abe Lemons Arena

THE MATCHUP: Oklahoma City University?s women face Central Oklahoma,
an NCAA Division II team from nearby Edmond.

ABOUT THE STARS: OCU is 1-0 after opening the season with a 107-42 victory over Huston-Tillotson (Texas) on Saturday in homecoming. Mariam Sy, a senior from Mali, West Africa, had a dominant performance. Sy had 30 points, 16 rebounds and four steals. The Stars are ranked seventh in NAIA Division I.

ABOUT THE BRONCHOS: UCO has yet to open the season. The Bronchos beat
the Oklahoma Flyers 49-45 in an exhibition last Tuesday. Lizzie Brenner, a freshman from Woodward, scored a team-high 12 points. UCO also returns Meghan Craig, who was second team all-Lone Star Conference North Division last season.

ABOUT THE COACHES: Rob Edmisson is in his first year at OCU. He came to OCU with 300 wins in 15 years as a head coach. Shawn Williams is in her second season as head coach after spending 14 years as an assistant at UCO. Williams led UCO to a 17-10 season in 2004-05.

QUOTABLE: ?Early we were very alert. I thought early on dictated the game from the jump ball. I think the first five possessions we stole the ball or deflected it. That was one of our goals as a team. You can?t guarantee you?re going to make baskets every night, but one thing you can guarantee every night is your defensive intensity and effort.? ? Edmisson on Saturday?s game
?They?re a team that relies a lot on 3-point shots. They like to play up tempo. They like to run. They like to shoot the 3s. They don?t have a lot of size. They?re going to be scrappy. They?re going to play multiple defenses. If they want to get up and down the floor and run, we?ll entertain that thought. We like to do that ourselves.? ? Edmisson on UCO
