Stars take 9-5 win over Mid-America

OCU piles up 15 hits for ninth time this season

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University completed the series sweep of Mid-America Christian with a 9-5 victory Saturday at Jim Wade Stadium.
Dylan Delso and Josh Halbert clouted home runs for the Stars. Oklahoma City, ranked third in NAIA baseball, moved to 38-10, 19-2 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
OCU collected four runs in the bottom of the third to build a 7-2 lead. Connor Lynch brought home the first run of the inning with a sacrifice fly to center field, then Dylan Delso followed by launching a 2-2 pitch over the right-field wall. Josh Halbert pounded a two-run homer to right.
Lynch hit a grounder that Mid-America third baseman A.J. Wilson committed an error on to allow Reggie Wilson to score. OCU led 8-2 in the fourth.
In the second inning, J.J. Bissell reached home plate on Adam Clark's groundball to score the Stars' first run. Adonis Askew nailed his first double as a Star to bring home two runs.
Oklahoma City reached 15 hits for the ninth time this year. Askew, a senior from Houston, drove in a career-best three runs to go with a 2-for-3 day, while Clark, a senior from St. John, New Brunswick, Canada, was 2-for-3 with a run scored, stolen base and an RBI for OCU.
Lynch, a senior from Marietta, Ga., went 2-for-4 with two runs driven in, and Wright, a senior from Fruitland, Idaho, went 2-for-4 and scored two runs for the Stars. Halbert, a senior from Choctaw, Okla., went 2-for-5 with two runs scored, two RBIs and his first homer of the year.
Skylar Janisse, a junior right-hander from LaSalle, Ontario, Canada, notched the victory. Janisse (3-5) struck out two in five innings while allowing three runs on four hits and four walks. Janisse logged four or more innings in his sixth consecutive start.
Jake Carson, Holden Lyons, Ken Williams and Miguel Gonzalez made appearances pitching for OCU. Lyons, Williams and Gonzalez teamed to keep Mid-America Christian scoreless for the final two innings.
The Stars visit East Central for a 2 p.m. contest Tuesday in Ada, Okla., in OCU's regular-season finale.
