Stars blank Concordia 1-0

OCU moves to 2-2 on season

SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. – Oklahoma City University topped Concordia (Neb.) 1-0 Saturday in its second match of the John Brown Classic at Alumni Field.
The Stars got an early goal from forward Ruy Vaz and held off Concordia to pick up the 1-0 victory and improve to 2-2 on the season.
Volney Richardson put a shot on goal in the third minute, but Concordia goalkeeper Brendan Buchanan made the save to keep OCU off the scoreboard.
After Vaz had an attempted on goal saved in the sixth minute, he took advantage of his next opportunity in the 27th minute and found the back of the net to give the Stars a 1-0 advantage.
OCU goalkeeper Joe Shulberg made saves in the 11th and 31st minutes to keep Concordia off the board and send the match to halftime with a score of 1-0.
Shulberg made two more saves in the final 10 minutes of the second half and the OCU defense shut down Concordia to take the 1-0 victory. Shulberg played all 90 minutes in goal and made four saves to earn his first shutout of the season.
OCU will return to action against Oklahoma Wesleyan at 7 p.m. Sept. 17 at Stars Field.
