Stars' Crabaugh, Jensen become MLB draftees

OCU has produced 65 players taken in MLB Draft

Cody Crabaugh became a second-team NAIA all-American as a senior.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University's Cody Crabaugh and Chase Jensen have been chosen in the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft on Saturday.
The San Diego Padres took Jensen in the 22nd round with the 658th overall selection, while the Miami Marlins picked Crabaugh in the 32nd round with the 952nd choice.
Jensen, a senior shortstop from Arlington, Texas, posted a .332 average with 52 runs scored, 68 hits, 16 doubles, four triples, 11 home runs, 51 RBIs and 15 stolen bases in 2013.
Jensen led the Stars in at-bats (205), hits and total bases (125) and tied for the team lead in games played (62), game starts (62), homers, triples, sacrifice flies (five) and RBIs. He ranked 14th in homers and 17th in total bases among the NAIA this year.
Among his highlights this year, Jensen had four homers and nine RBIs in the four-game series against Wayland Baptist (Texas) to collect Sooner Athletic Conference and NAIA player of the week awards for April 15-21. He went 4-for-5 with three runs scored, a homer, three RBIs and two steals – including a steal of home for the winning run – against USAO on May 10 in the NAIA Championship Opening Round. Jensen hit a walk-off homer against Lubbock Christian (Texas) on April 12.
“He is a solid defensive shortstop who hits for power,” OCU coach Denney Crabaugh said.
In 2012, Jensen hit .262 with one homer, 33 RBIs and seven steals for the University of Houston. As a sophomore, Jensen had a .320 average with three homers, 45 RBIs and five steals for Houston.
Crabaugh, a senior right-handed pitcher from Edmond, Okla., compiled a 13-2 record and 2.12 earned run average, three complete games, a shutout and 77 strikeouts in 93.1 innings pitched this year.
In the NAIA, Crabaugh ranked fourth in wins this year. He led the SAC in wins and ranked second in ERA to his teammate Derek Howell. Crabaugh struck out seven in eight innings, both season highs, against Mid-America Christian on May 3 in the SAC Tournament. His whitewashed St. Gregory's on March 20 in Shawnee, Okla. He became a second-team NAIA all-American and first-team all-SAC selection this season.
Crabaugh put together a 35-10 record, 3.89 ERA, four complete games, two shutouts, four saves and 231 strikeouts in 272.2 innings in four years at OCU.
“He is a tremendous competitor,” Crabaugh said of his son Cody. “This has been one of the purest joys as a coach. I wouldn't trade a bunch of national championships for the opportunity to coach him. I'm so proud of him. It's a father's pride, but also a coach's pride.”
OCU now boasts of 65 MLB draftees. Denney Crabaugh has coached 59 MLB draftees, 126 future professionals and 77 all-Americans in 26 years at OCU.
The Stars went 49-13 with their third consecutive regular-season league championship. Crabaugh ran his record to 1,233-379-2 in 25 years with the 2005 national championship as OCU head coach.
