Stars aid those affected by tornadoes

OCU baseball, spirit squads and women's basketball give back to community

OCU's spirit squads spent time with children at a camp for victims of the recent tornadoes.
OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University athletics has pitched in on tornado relief efforts.
OCU's spirit squads and women's basketball team aided with a camp for those affected by the recent tornados in the metro area. The OCU baseball team is gathering equipment for the Moore Youth Baseball Association.
The Stars' spirit squads helped Southern Hills Baptist Church put on a free sports camp open to those struck by the tornadoes. The Stars provided instruction and material to the campers June 4. Also that day, the OCU women's basketball team taught campers fundamentals of basketball. Cheerleaders from Central Oklahoma, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State also gave their time for the campers that week.
The OCU spirit squads also collected items for a backpack program organized by St. Andrews Church. Stars cheerleaders stuffed backpacks for children from the Briarwood and Plaza Towers elementary schools.
The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Baseball Coaches Association (NAIA-BCA) needs assistance in helping the players and teams of the Moore Youth Baseball Association (MYBA), victims of the recent Oklahoma tornadoes, by collecting baseball equipment to be donated to the league.
“Our thoughts continue to rest with the people of Oklahoma as they continue to rebuild,” said NAIA-BCA President and Fisher College (Mass.) head coach Scott Dulin. “Providing baseball equipment will allow the kids and league (MYBA) to regain a piece of normalcy in a time of trouble. Any assistance is helpful.”
The NAIA-BCA plans to send gloves, bats, bags, balls and other equipment to the MYBA in order to help the association's nearly 150 teams in a small piece of the rebuilding effort.
The Moore Youth Baseball Association is a non-profit baseball league, whose purpose is to provide a safe environment for the youth of the Moore, Okla., community. It also places a strong emphasis on the development of character and sportsmanship. The association currently works with children ranging from ages 4-14.
Donations to the cause can be sent to Oklahoma City University head baseball coach Denney Crabaugh at the following address:
