Stars split with Mid-America Christian

OCU dropped the Evangels 7-1 before falling 1-0 in the second game

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University topped Mid-America Christian 7-1 before falling 1-0 Saturday at James Curtis Field.
The split moves the Stars, ranked No. 2 in NAIA baseball, to 33-8 overall and 11-3 in Sooner Athletic Conference play.
Walker Davidson put OCU on the scoreboard in the top of the second with a single to left field that plated Kale Gaden and made the score 1-0.
In the top of the fifth, Jonathan Sigado hit a three-run home run over the center-field fence to stretch the Stars' lead to 4-0. Gaden walked and later scored on an error to give OCU a 5-0 advantage.
A sacrifice fly by Sigado in the top of the sixth and an RBI single from Randy Vann in the top of the seventh gave the Stars a 7-0 lead.
Ricky Spain allowed a run in the bottom of the seventh, but retired the side to give the Stars the 7-1 victory.
Shane Henderson allowed two hits with four strikeouts in five scoreless innings and picked up the win to move to 1-0 on the season. Spain pitched two innings in relief.
Sigado led the Stars at the plate with four RBIs.
Mid-America Christian's J.P. Seifried led off the bottom of the first inning with a home run to left and gave the Evangels a 1-0 lead.
OCU had runners on third base in the first, second, fifth and six innings but failed to push a run across and the Evangels took the 1-0 victory.
Ryan Gibson allowed one run on three hits and struck out four in 5.2 inning of action. Patrick Goelz pitched a third of an inning in relief.
OCU will return to action in a 3 p.m. doubleheader against Lubbock Christian (Texas) on April 12 at Jim Wade Stadium.
