Stars shut down Lubbock Christian 3-0, drop second 10-2

OCU ends Lubbock Christian's 27-game winning string

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University prevailed 3-0, then fell 10-2 to Lubbock Christian (Texas) on Friday at Ann Lacy Stadium in a contest featuring top 10-ranked squads in NAIA softball.
The sixth-ranked Stars halted third-ranked Lubbock Christian's 27-game win streak, then Lubbock Christian hit three homers in the second game. OCU went to 36-8, 12-2 in the Sooner Athletic Conference, while Lubbock Christian moved to 42-7, 16-2 in league play.
In the first game, Jamie Rateliff twirled a four-hit shutout for her fourth whitewash and 10th complete game in 14 starts this year. Rateliff, a sophomore from Mustang, Okla., notched two strikeouts and improved to 14-0 in 2013.
Rateliff hit two batters in the fourth inning. She retired Stephanie Rendon on a fielder's choice grounder to finish the inning unscathed.
LeeAnn Lopez drove in OCU's first run with a sacrifice fly in the first. Tori Joyner reached base on a hit by pitch, then stole second base. Joyner advanced to third on Kyndra Holasek's ground ball, then scored on Lopez's fly to right field. Lopez added to her NAIA-high RBI total, tacking on her 68th of the year.
Katera Eltsosie held the Stars hitless until Angela Lovelady nailed a double to left with one out in the fifth.
The Stars filled the bases in the sixth as Joyner singled, Holasek reached on an error and Lopez drew a walk. Magean De La Torre cashed in by swatting a two-run base hit to left on a full count.
Joyner, a senior from Mustang, Okla., went 1-for-2 and scored twice. De La Torre, a senior from Plano, Texas, went 1-for-3, while Lovelady, a senior from El Cajon, Calif., went 1-for-3.
In the second game, OCU tied the game 1-1 when Holasek scored on a passed ball in the first. The Stars cut their deficit to 3-2 as Lovelady doubled, then reached home using two wild pitches in the second.
Lovelady finished the second game 2-for-2 with her 15th double of the season, while Holasek and Joyner each were 1-for-3. Holasek, a freshman from Mustang, Okla., scored a run.
Megan Sullivan homered twice and drove in four runs, while Genevieve Estrada added a two-run, pinch-hit homer for Lubbock Christian.
The Stars extended their winning streak to nine before Lubbock Christian stopped it.
OCU meets Lubbock Christian in a noon doubleheader Saturday at Ann Lacy Stadium.
