OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University has signed Sydney Garcia of Moore, Okla. and Kelsey Link of Albuquerque, N.M. to its softball program.
Garcia and Link are the first softball recruits to sign with OCU for the 2011 season.

Ashley Wilburn became a second-team NAIA all-American and first-team all-Sooner Athletic Conference pick last year.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Oklahoma City University has been ranked third in the NAIA according to preseason softball ratings.

The Stars closed out last season 53-9 and fourth in the NAIA Championships. OCU has been favored to win the Sooner Athletic Conference.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University will be the team to beat according to a poll of the Sooner Athletic Conference softball coaches released Monday.

Oklahoma City received the maximum nine first-place votes for 81 points. Coaches were not permitted to rank their own program. Lubbock Christian (Texas) took the only other first-place vote and finished second with 68 points.

Erin Slettvet
Erin Slettvet earned the 2009 NAIA catcher of the year award after being named NJCAA catcher of the year as a freshman.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Erin Slettvet of Oklahoma City University has been selected as the NAIA catcher of the year by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.

Slettvet, a senior from Long Beach, Calif., has been named the top catcher in the NAIA in 2009 as presented by Diamond Sports and the NFCA. She also captured the NJCAA catcher of the year award as a freshman.

7.19.09 | Softball

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University coach Phil McSpadden and assistants Bobbi Bridges, Guy Cook and Harold Copas have been selected as NAIA National Fastpitch Coaches Association Southwest Region coaching staff of the year.

The Stars went 53-9, won the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament and finished fourth in the NAIA Championships. McSpadden and his staff have been recognized as NAIA NFCA national coaching staff of the year in 2001 and 2007.

OKLAHOMA CITY – United States coach Jay Miller and Australia player Tracey Mosley will be two competitors in the World Cup of Softball with Oklahoma City University ties.

Miller guided the OCU softball program from 1985-87, leading the Lady Chiefs to the 1986 NAIA championship game. Mosley became a three-time all-American playing in 1992-95 for OCU.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Amanda Howard and Erin Slettvet of Oklahoma City University made first-team National Fastpitch Coaches Association NAIA all-American.

Howard and Slettvet were joined by teammates Mindy Crabaugh, Melissa Moore and Ashley Wilburn on the NFCA all-NAIA Southwest Region team.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Mindy Crabaugh of Oklahoma City University has been named an ESPN the Magazine third-team college-division softball academic all-American.

Crabaugh, a senior from Edmond, Okla., became OCU’s third two-time academic all-American. Soccer player Erika Garbrecht in 2007 and 2008 and tennis player Erika Callaway in 1996 and 1997 were OCU’s other two-time honorees.

DECATUR, Ala. – Amanda Howard of Oklahoma City University collected the NAIA softball player of the year award as five Stars were named all-American.

Catcher Erin Slettvet joined Howard on the first team, while second baseman Mindy Crabaugh, third baseman Melissa Moore and pitcher-designated player Ashley Wilburn made the second team.

DECATUR, Ala. – Oklahoma City University ended its season with a 7-6 loss to Dickinson State (N.D.) on Tuesday in the NAIA Championships semifinals at Wilson Morgan Softball Complex.

The sixth-ranked Stars finished at 53-9 and fourth place in the NAIA Championships. OCU rallied from a 6-1 deficit to tie it in the seventh inning, then Dickinson State scored in the bottom of the inning on Kelly Jahn’s single.
