Stars take two from Lubbock Christian

OCU topped the Chaps 3-2 in the first game and 4-3 in the second

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University edged fifth-ranked Lubbock Christian (Texas) 3-2, 4-3 Friday at Jim Wade Stadium.
The Stars, ranked No. 2 in NAIA baseball, got a walk-off home run from Chase Jensen in the first game and 16 total strikeouts from their pitching staff to move to 35-8 overall and 13-3 in Sooner Athletic Conference play.
The Chaparrals jumped on the scoreboard in the top of the first inning when Joel Lutz hit a sacrifice fly to left field and drove in Christian Vazquez to make the score 1-0.
OCU evened the score at 1-1 in the bottom of the second when Jonathan Sigado notched a sacrifice fly of his own to plate Cody Ferrell.
Lubbock Christian answered in the top of the third when Brandon Wilson singled to left and drove in Vazquez to give the Chaps a 2-1 advantage.
Jonathan Rodriguez scored on a passed ball in the bottom of the sixth to even the score at two runs apiece.
In the bottom of the seventh, Jensen clubbed the first pitch of the inning over the left field fence to give OCU the 3-2 victory.
Derek Howell allowed two runs on five hits with nine strikeouts in seven innings of work to pick up the win and move to 8-1 on the season.
Brennyn Smith put the Chaps on the board in the top of the first inning of game No. 2 with a solo home run to left.
In the bottom of the first, Kale Gaden singled to left center and scored Rodriguez from second base to even the score at 1-1.
The Stars plated two runs in the top of the fourth to make the score 3-1 in favor of OCU. Forrest Smith singled up the middle to drive in Gaden and Ferrell scored on a Lubbock Christian error.
Wilson singled to right field and cashed Brent Leslie to cut the OCU lead to 3-2 in the top of the fifth.
A sacrifice fly from Rodriguez plated Chris Muñoz to stretch the OCU lead to 4-2 in the bottom of the fifth.
Jason Fisch cut the OCU lead to 3-4 in the top of the sixth with a solo homer over the left-field wall.
Davis Henderson retired the Chaps' side in order in the top of the seventh to give the Stars the 4-3 victory.
Cody Crabaugh allowed two runs on four hits with five strikeouts in 4.2 innings and improved to 10-1 on the season. Patrick Goelz struck out one in 1.1 innings of relief and Henderson tossed a scoreless seventh inning to earn his fifth save of the season.
The Stars will return to action in a 1 p.m. doubleheader against Lubbock Christian Saturday at Jim Wade Stadium.
