OCU smacks Texas A&M International 12-2, 9-1

The Stars outscored the Dustdevils 21-3 to improve to 26-6 on the season

Jamie Rateliff drove in six runs and picked up a pair of wins in the circle against Texas A&M International.

LAREDO, Texas – Oklahoma City University swept Texas A&M International 12-2 and 9-1 Thursday at Dustdevil Softball Field.
The Stars, ranked No. 9 in NAIA softball, clubbed six home runs, including two from Jamie Rateliff, and outscored the Dustdevils 21-3 to improve to 26-6 on the season.
Rateliff got the Stars on the scoreboard in the top of the second with a two-run home run over the left-field fence to make the score 2-0.
The Dustdevils cut the lead to 2-1 in the bottom of the third when Rochelle Nash singled up the middle and drove in a run.
OCU responded with a four-run top of the fourth. Rateliff started the scoring with an RBI singled to left. Three batters later, Shelbi Legg drove in a pair of runs with a double to center. Tori Joyner followed with single to plate Legg and make the score 6-1.
Rateliff doubled and drove in two more runs in the top of the fifth. Later in the inning, Joyner doubled to left and scored Rateliff and Angela Lovelady. Kyndra Holasek followed with an RBI single to stretch the OCU lead to 12-1.
Nash homered to left in the bottom of the fifth to push the Dustdevils' run total to two, but OCU retired the side and picked up the 12-2, run-rule victory.
Rateliff allowed two runs on five hits with three strikeouts to earn the win and move to 7-0 on the season. The sophomore from Mustang, Okla., helped her own cause by going 3-for-3 with five RBIs to lead the Stars at the dish.
OCU smacked four home runs in the top of the first inning to take a 6-0 lead. Holasek, LeeAnn Lopez, Magean De La Torre and Rateliff hit solo homers and Emily Krienke crushed a two-run blast to cap the inning for the Stars.
Rateliff scored on an error in the top of the third to make the score 8-0 in favor of the Stars.
Drew Wright drove in a run in the top of the fourth and De La Torre followed with an RBI single to stretch the OCU lead to 9-0.
Texas A&M International plated a run in the bottom of the fourth, but the OCU pitching staff shut the door and gave the Stars the 9-1, run-rule victory.
Elizabeth Oberst struck out four batters in two innings of work. Rateliff tossed three scoreless innings and picked up the win to improve to 8-0.
De La Torre and Krienke drove in two runs apiece to lead OCU at the plate.
The Stars will return to action in a 4 p.m. doubleheader against Houston-Victoria (Texas) Friday in Victoria, Texas.
