OCU dispatches Briar Cliff 5-1

Stars complete two-game sweep of Briar Cliff

Chase Jensen posted a double and a run-scoring triple Saturday.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University knocked off Briar Cliff (Iowa) 5-1 on Saturday at Jim Wade Stadium.
Kale Gaden pounded a two-run home run, while Chase Jensen nailed a double and an RBI triple for the Stars. OCU, ranked fourth in NAIA baseball, moved to 22-6 on the year.
OCU's Brayden Brumley scored on a wild pitch to tie the game 1-1 in the fifth inning. Chris Muñoz made it to second base on the play, while Brumley took third. Once Briar Cliff catcher Brock Allen threw to second in an attempt to throw out Muñoz, Brumley headed to home plate.
In the sixth, Cody Ferrell nailed an RBI single to left. Gaden followed by crushing a 2-0 pitch over the right-field wall.
Jensen swatted a full-count offering deep into the corner of left field to score Walker Davidson and put OCU ahead 5-1 in the seventh.
Jensen, a senior from Arlington, Texas, went 2-for-4, scored a run and drove in a run, while Davidson, a senior from Berryhill, Okla., went 1-for-2 with a run scored. Ferrell, a senior from McLoud, Okla., was 1-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI, and Brumley, a senior from Ardmore, Okla., was 1-for-3 and scored a run. Gaden, a senior from Stillwater, Okla., hammered his fifth homer of the year.
Cody Crabaugh pitched six innings, struck out six and allowed one run on three hits and a walk. Crabaugh, a senior right-hander from Edmond, Okla., improved to 6-1 on the year. Shane Henderson, Patrick Goelz and Davis Henderson each pitched an inning.
OCU turned a 6-4-3 double play to finish the game and get out of a jam. Briar Cliff's Angel Talamantes and Zach Watts drew walks to get runners on first and second.
The Stars are set to play St. Gregory's in a 2 p.m. doubleheader Thursday in Shawnee, Okla.
