Stars pound Briar Cliff 16-2

OCU scored in every inning to pick up the win and improve to 21-6 on the season

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University pounded Briar Cliff (Iowa) 16-2 Friday at Jim Wade Stadium.
The fourth-ranked Stars scored at least one run in every inning and clubbed five home runs, including two from Josh Dickey, to improve to 21-6 on the season.
After surrendering a run in the top of the first inning, OCU struck for five runs in the bottom of the first.
Chris Muñoz led off the bottom of the inning with a solo home run to right field. Five batters later, Dickey smacked a three-run homer to left and made the score 4-1. Jonathan Sigado followed with a solo blast over the left-field fence to give the Stars a 5-1 advantage.
Chase Jensen singled to right and plated Brayden Brumley in the bottom of the second to make the score 7-1.
Andrew Dennis tripled and drove in a run and later scored on an error to add two more OCU runs in the bottom of the third. Jonathan Rodriguez capped the inning with an RBI single to give the Stars a 10-1 edge.
Dickey led off the bottom of the fourth with his second home run of the night. After a Sigado double, Kale Gaden slugged his fourth home run of the season to make the score 13-1 in favor of the Stars.
Dennis doubled to left and drove in Dickey and Dalton Bernardi in the bottom of the fifth to push the OCU lead to 15-1.
Bernardi capped the scoring with an RBI single to right to make the score 16-2.
Will Patrigo retired the side in the top of the seventh and gave OCU the 16-2 run-rule victory.
Derek Howell allowed one run on two hits and struck out three batters in five innings to earn the win and move to 4-1 on the season. Chad Nelson and Patrigo each tossed an inning of relief.
Dickey went 2-for-3 with four RBIs to lead the Stars at the dish. Dennis drove in three runs and Gaden plated two.
The Stars will return to action against Briar Cliff at 1 p.m. Saturday at Jim Wade Stadium.
