Stars round out wrestling recruiting class

OCU brings in 12 grapplers for 2012-13 season

The Stars finished 10-5 in duals and fifth place in the NAIA Championships in 2011-12.
OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University has added John Davison of Guthrie, Okla., to its men's wrestling recruiting class for 2012-13.
Davison finished as Class 5A state runner-up at 285 pounds as a senior. Davison's addition makes 12 in the Stars' recruiting haul for the upcoming season. OCU has signed five state champions, six state finalists and seven all-staters among its latest recruits.
As a senior, Davison finished 25-2 and took the regional crown while serving as team captain. Davison copped honorable-mention Oklahoman all-city honors. His junior year included a 27-8 ledger, regional runner-up finish and a fourth-place state finish.
Davison ended his prep career with a three-year record of 73-35, becoming the first Guthrie wrestler to place twice in the state tournament. He became a two-time all-Suburban Conference performer.
“It's close to home and a good education,” Davison said of OCU.
The Stars posted their finest finish yet in men's wrestling in 2011-12. OCU took fifth place in the NAIA Championships with four all-Americans. Kevin Hardy became OCU's first national champion by capturing the 165-pound title, and Nik Turner picked up runner-up honors at 157. The Stars were 10-5 in duals.
OCU opens the 2012-13 season with the Black-Blue Ranking Matches at 7 p.m. Oct. 31 at Abe Lemons Arena before its first regular-season duals vs. Maryville (Mo.) and Oklahoma on Nov. 2 in Norman, Okla.
