Stars add state champion wrestlers

OCU adds three state champions and two state qualifiers

OKLAHOMA CITY – Landon Carter, Rory Haug, Jacob King, Casey Powell and Trevor Sterling have signed on to join the Oklahoma City University wrestling team for the 2012-13 season.
OCU recorded its highest finish in program history in 2011-12, finishing fifth at the NAIA Championships in Des Moines, Iowa.
Carter, of Manti, Utah, compiled a record of 96-4 in his junior and senior years at Manti High School. Carter finished third in Class 3A wrestling as a junior and picked up the state title at 220 pounds in Class 2A as a senior. Carter was also a two time all-state performer on the football field and was named to the first-team as a senior.
Haug, of Olathe, Kan., claimed a state title in 2011-12 at Olathe North High School. The 160-pounder racked up an overall record of 109-28 in four years and was a four time state qualifier and two time regional champion.
King, of Rio Rancho, N.M., went 39-5 with 26 falls and won the 170-pound state championship as a senior. The 170-pounder was named to the 2011-12 New Mexico dream team and is a four-time academic all-American.
Powell, of Claremore, Okla., gathered a record of 114-47 in four years at Claremore High School. Powell posted a runner-up finish at the regional tournament and placed at the state tournament in 2011-12.
Sterling, of Altus, Okla., comes to OCU by way of Wyoming. Sterling went 6-12 at Wyoming and 56-21 at Altus. Sterling grabbed all-state honors at Altus where he was a state and regional finalist and three time district champion.
