Schiele cards 68, Stars sit seventh in NAIA Championships

OCU turned in the third lowest team score of the second round and jumped from 18th to seventh place

Mary Larsh posted a round-two 78 to help the Stars jump from 18th to seventh place at the NAIA Championships.
GREENEVILLE, Tenn. –Oklahoma City University's Jessica Schiele tied an NAIA Championships single-round record while the Stars turned in the third lowest team score of the day and jumped up to seventh place after two rounds in the NAIA Championships at Link Hills Country Club.
The Stars, ranked No. 1 in NAIA women's golf, shot a round-two 300 on the par-73, 6,044-yard course and improved from 18th to seventh place. OCU is 14 shots behind tournament leader British Columbia (Canada) and two shots behind sixth-place Oklahoma Christian with two rounds left to play.
Schiele, a junior from Grimsby, North East Lincolnshire, England, fired a round-two 68 to match the lowest round ever recorded at the NAIA Championships. Former OCU golfer Ashley Sholer set the mark in 2006 when she won the individual NAIA title.
Schiele carded six birdies on the day and finished in third place. The junior sits three shot off the pace set by Nikki Stewart of SCAD (Ga.) and two shots behind Megan Woodland of Victoria (Canada).
Junior Taylor Howard, of Ada, Okla., holed three birdies on the day and shot 75 to finish tied for 25th. Fellow junior Mary Larsh, of Edmond, Okla., carded a round-two 78 and finished tied for 56th.
Tanya Tibshraeny, a junior from Westhaven, Kirkwood, South Africa, and Madison Haley, a senior from El Reno, Okla., each added a round-two 79.
“The girls did a great job of battling and staying focused today,” OCU coach Marty McCauley said. “We still have some work to do, but we are in a much better position.”
OCU will return to action in the third round of the NAIA Championships Thursday at Link Hills Country Club in Greeneville, Tenn.
