Stars start play in NAIA Championships vs. Thomas at 3 p.m. Thursday

Katie Proffitt has 96 career hits as well as a 3.37 grade-point average at OCU.
OKLAHOMA CITY – Katie Proffitt and A.J. Woodward represented Oklahoma City University on the CoSIDA academic all-district softball teams recently announced.
Proffitt, a senior outfielder from Tulsa, Okla., and Woodward, a senior pitcher from Menifee, Calif., picked up their first academic all-district honors, making college-division academic all-District 7.
The two helped OCU go 40-18, win the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament championship and make the NAIA Championships for the 21st consecutive year. The third-ranked Stars begin national-tournament pool play against Thomas (Fla.) at 3 p.m. Thursday in Gulf Shores, Ala.
Proffitt has hit .302 with five doubles, two triples, 18 RBIs and four stolen bases this year. Proffitt has posted a .288 batting average, .339 slugging percentage, 96 hits, 79 runs, 13 doubles, two triples, 40 RBIs and 18 steals in her four-year Stars career. Proffitt maintains a 3.37 grade-point average while majoring in biomedical sciences.
Woodward has gone 14-1 with a 3.02 earned run average, seven complete games, two shutouts and 72 strikeouts in 103.2 innings pitched this season. Woodward has recorded a 30-5 record, 3.00 ERA, 24 complete games, seven shutouts, 221 strikeouts and 247.1 innings pitched as a Star. She holds a 3.78 GPA while pursuing a nursing degree.
Academic all-district selections were chosen based on a minimum 3.30 GPA and sophomore status in athletic eligibility. The nominees are then voted on by district sports information directors. First-team all-district honorees have the distinction of being nominated for all-American honors, set to be announced May 21.
OCU owns eight NAIA softball championships from 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2007.
