Stars sit 18th in NAIA Championships

OCU shot a round-one 319 and tied for 18th with Bethel

Tanya Tibshraeny carded a pair of first-round birdies at the NAIA Championships.
GREENEVILLE, Tenn. – Top-ranked Oklahoma City University carded a first-round 319 and finished tied for 18th at the NAIA Championships at Link Hills Country Club.
The Stars, ranked No. 1 in NAIA women's golf, finished in tie for 18th with Bethel (Ind.), 21 shots off the lead held by Shorter (Ga.). OCU holed six birdies on the par-73, 6,044-yard course.
Jessica Macphee, of Thomas (Ga.) and Pauline Schopp, of Shorter, each shot a round-one 71 to grab the individual lead.
Juniors Jessica Schiele, of Grimsby, North East Lincolnshire, England, and Taylor Howard, of Ada, Okla., each carded 78 and finished tied for 49th.
Mary Larsh, a junior from Edmond, Okla., shot a round-one 80 to finish tied for 65th and fellow junior Tanya Tibshraeny tied for 98th with an 83. Senior Madison Haley, of El Reno, Okla., added an 85 and finished tied for 109th.
The Stars will return to action in second round of the NAIA Championships at 12:50 p.m. CDT Wednesday at Link Hills Country Club.
