Stars sweep Rogers State 8-0, 12-6

OCU put up 20 runs in two wins over Rogers State Saturday

Jamie Rateliff went 4-for-9 with four RBIs against Rogers State Saturday.
CLAREMORE, Okla. – Third-ranked Oklahoma City University took down Rogers State 8-0 and 12-6 in a doubleheader Saturday at Hillcat Complex.
The sweep moves the Stars, ranked No. 3 in NAIA softball, to 28-17 overall and 13-4 in Sooner Athletic Conference play.
OCU picked up a two-run lead in the top of the first inning when Angela Lovelady's sacrifice fly drove in Tori Joyner and Lily LaVelle scored on an error.
Joyner stole home in the top of the third to push OCU's lead to 3-0.
LeeAnn Lopez singled to center field in the top of the fifth to plate Joyner and give the Stars a 4-0 advantage.
In the top of the sixth, LaVelle singled up the middle and drove in pair of runs. Lopez followed with an RBI single down the right-field line to stretch the Stars' lead to 7-0.
Danielle Fox drove in Magean De La Torre in the top of the seventh to make the score 8-0 in favor of OCU.
LaVelle struck out two in the bottom of the seventh to give the Stars the 8-0 victory. The senior from Bridge Creek, Okla., allowed one hit and struck out 14 in seven scoreless innings to pick up the win and move to 28-2 on the season.
Lopez went 3-for-3 with two RBIs and LaVelle finished 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs to lead OCU at the plate.
Joyner led off game No. 2 with a single up the middle and LaVelle followed with a home run to left field to make the score 2-0.
Jamie Rateliff and Lovelady each drove in a run the top of the third to give OCU a 4-1 lead.
In the top of the fifth, Rateliff singled left to drive in Lopez and De La Torre. Katie Proffitt doubled to left center three batters later to drive in a pair of OCU runs and make the score 8-1.
Rogers State battled back with five runs in the bottom of the fifth to cut the Stars' lead to 8-6.
OCU responded with four more runs in the top of the sixth. After Lopez scored on an error, Lovelady singled through the left side of the infield to plate Kylee Rounsaville and De La Torre. Rateliff scored on a passed ball to cap the scoring and push the OCU lead to 12-6.
LaVelle struck out the side in the bottom of the seventh to give OCU the 12-6 win.
A.J. Woodward struck out three in 4.1 innings of work to pick up the win and move to 11-1 on the season. LaVelle tossed 2.2 innings in relief with six strike outs.
Rateliff drove in four runs and Lovelady followed with three RBIs to lead the Stars at the dish.
OCU will return to action against Northwestern Oklahoma State in a 2 p.m. doubleheader Tuesday at the Alva Recreational Complex in Alva, Okla.
