Stars sweep Mid-America Christian

OCU outslugged the Evangels 8-1 and 11-0

Cody Crabaugh tossed five scoreless innings against Mid-America Christian Friday.
OKLAHOMA CITY – Top-ranked Oklahoma City University swept a doubleheader against Mid-America Christian, winning 8-1 and 11-0 Friday at Jim Wade Stadium.
The sweep moves the Stars, No. 1 in the NAIA, to 19-4 overall and 10-1 in Sooner Athletic Conference play.
Senior Chad Carman got OCU on the scoreboard in the top of the first inning with a two-RBI double to right-center field to make the score 2-0. Dane Phillips followed with a single down the left-field line to plate Carman and later scored on a passed ball to give the Stars a 4-0 lead.
Cody Ferrell led off the top of the second with an inside-the-park home run to put OCU up 5-0. Later in the inning, Carman singled to drive in Chris Muñoz from third base and make the score 6-0.
Kale Gaden pushed the OCU lead to 7-0 with a solo home run to right field in the top of third. An inning later, Carman singled through the right side of the infield to plate Muñoz and make the score 8-0.
Mid-America Christian managed a run in the bottom of the sixth, but the Stars cruised to the 8-1 victory.
Junior Cody Crabaugh allowed two hits and struck out five batters in five scoreless innings to pick up the win and move to 4-2 on the season. Kyle Lacy and Ryan Gibson each pitched an inning in relief.
Carman finished 3-for-4 with four RBIs to lead the Stars at the plate. Ferrell, Gaden and Phillips drove in one run apiece in the game.
OCU plated eight runs in the bottom of the first in game No. 2. Muñoz started the scoring with an RBI double to make the score 1-0. Two batters later Phillips singled up the middle to drive in two more runs and put the Stars on top 3-0.
Jonathan Sigado, Gaden and Muñoz capped the rally with RBI base hits to extend OCU's lead to 8-0 after the bottom of the first.
Beltran led off the bottom of the second with a towering home run to right to make the score 9-0. Later in the inning, Rich Hawkins singled up the middle to drive in Brayden Brumley and put the Stars on top 10-0.
Ferrell led off the bottom of the fifth with a solo homerun to left field to cap the scoring and give OCU an 11-0 lead.
Will Patrigo and Allen Townsend closed the door on Mid-American in the sixth and seventh innings, each striking out the side to give OCU the 11-0 victory.
Starting pitcher Davis Henderson struck out 10 batters in five scoreless innings to get the win and move to 3-0 on the season.
Muñoz finished 2-for-2 with two RBIs and Phillips went 1-for-3 with a pair of RBIs to lead OCU at the plate.
The Stars will return to action against Bethany (Kan.) at 5 p.m. Monday at Jim Wade Stadium.
