OCU's Schiele shares lead in Southern Miss Invitational

Top-ranked Stars shoot first-round 311 to be sixth after first round

Taylor Howard sank 13 pars for the Stars on Monday at Hattiesburg Country Club. OCU found itself in sixth place in the team standings after shooting a 311.
HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Jessica Schiele tied for the individual lead as top-ranked Oklahoma City University stood in sixth place through 18 holes of the Southern Mississippi Lady Eagle Invitational at Hattiesburg Country Club on Monday.
Schiele, a junior from Grimsby, North East Lincolnshire, England, carded an even-par 72 on the 6,143-yard course. OCU, ranked No. 1 in NAIA women's golf, shot a 311 to hold an edge on four NCAA Division I teams.
On the day, Schiele produced 14 pars in tying Lucia Fernandez of Jacksonville State and Brandi Rodriguez of Southern Mississippi for the first-round lead. Schiele shot 35 on the back nine.
Kendra Mann, a freshman from Harrah, Okla., shot 79 to be tied for 24th for OCU. Taylor Howard, a junior from Ada, Okla., contributed an 80 for the Stars while making par 13 times Monday.
Tanya Tibshraeny, a junior from Kirkwood, Westhaven, South Africa, added an 80, while Mary Larsh, a junior from Edmond, Okla., had an 81.
The tournament finishes 9 a.m. Tuesday with a shotgun start to begin the final 18 holes.
