OCU picks up 5-1 win over Bellevue

Stars use pitching and defense to move to 8-3 in the season

Miguel Beltran went 2-for-2 with an RBI against Bellevue.
OKLAHOMA CITY – Top-ranked Oklahoma City University used timely pitching and defense to snag a 5-1 win over Bellevue (Neb.) Sunday at Jim Wade Stadium.
Junior Davis Henderson threw five innings for the Stars and worked out of a few jams to help move OCU to 8-3 on the season.
Cody Ferrell and Chris Muñoz led off with back-to-back singles in the bottom of the first and later scored to give the Stars an early 2-0 lead.
After Muñoz doubled to left center in the bottom of the fifth, Dane Phillips followed with a double of his own to drive in Muñoz and make the score 3-0.
Later in the fifth, Miguel Beltran singled up the middle to score Andrew Dennis from the third and give OCU a 4-0 lead.
With one out in the bottom of the sixth inning Ferrell singled through the left side and then stole second base. Muñoz followed with a single up the middle to score Ferrell from second and make the score 5-1.
Junior right hander Patrick Goelz tossed a scoreless top of the seventh to give OCU the 5-1 victory.
Henderson allowed one run on six hits and struck out three Bellevue hitters in five innings of work to pick up the win and move to 2-0 on the year.
Muñoz led the way at the plate going 3-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI. Phillips finished 2-for-4 on the day with an RBI and Beltran went 2-fo-2 with an RBI.
The Stars will hit the field for a doubleheader against Northwood (Texas) at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Jim Wade Stadium.
