OCU TAKES FOURTH CONSECUTIVE WCWA CROWN

Six Stars win national titles, 15 nab all-American honors

OCU's 2012 WCWA champion
BRISTOL, Tenn. – Oklahoma City University collected its fourth consecutive Women's College Wrestling Association championship on Saturday at the Student Center Complex.
The top-ranked Stars established program highs in the WCWA Championships with 141 points and six individual national champions, besting tournament host King (Tenn.), who had 91 points.
Fifteen OCU wrestlers took all-American honors as Emily Webster at 101 pounds, Joey Miller (116), Michaela Hutchison (123), Jennifer Page (143), Kristie Davis (155) and Brittany Delgado (191) won national titles. Kristi Garr at 109, Audrey Morehouse at 130 and Stephanie Geltmacher at 136 picked up runner-up finishes.
The Stars' Tessa Plana at 136 and Brittney Roberts at 170 took third place, while Brieana Delgado (130) and Demi Strub (155) were fourth-place finishers. Brianna Rahall of OCU took fifth place at 101, and Heather O'Connor grabbed sixth at 170.
Oklahoma City University now owns 42 national championships in all sports.
“Very seldom do you have a team wrestle as hard as they did,” said OCU coach Archie Randall, the WCWA coach of the year. “It's amazing. Each team is different. It's different because it's a different group of kids. It will be special to me and special for them. It's pretty exciting. Not too shabby.”
Hutchison, a senior from Soldotna, Alaska, completed her Stars career with her third national crown and fourth all-American honor. Hutchison's 2-1, 1-0 win over Sarah Hildebrandt of King brought her the national championship. Hutchison had two pins Saturday and complete her season 36-5 and 20 falls. Hutchison went 140-18 with 68 pins for the Stars.
Davis, a senior from Mustang, Okla., pinned Sydney Nelson of Cumberlands (Ky.) in 56 seconds for the 155-pound national title. Davis won her second consecutive national championship. Davis, the wife of OCU assistant Link Davis, finished her Stars career with a 70-7 two-year record and 28 falls.
Delgado, a senior from Fountain Inn, S.C., posted three falls Saturday in capturing the 191-pound title. She pinned Hillary Greening of Simon Fraser in 1:49 in the final to finish her senior season 28-0 with 16 pins. Delgado ended her OCU career with three national titles, four all-American honors, a 112-8 record and 62 falls.
Webster, a freshman from Sedalia, Mo., won the 101-pound national title with a 6-0, 6-0 technical-fall victory over Daphne-Ann Hodgson of Simon Fraser (British Columbia). Webster also had a 7-0, 6-0 win over Opelia Felipe of Cumberlands (Tenn.) in the semifinals. Webster finished her season 33-7.
Miller, a junior from Woodward, Okla., triumphed 4-0, 3-0 over Andrea Hughes of Cumberlands to become the first native Oklahoman to win a WCWA title for the Stars. Miller struck for three falls on the way to the finals. Miller's season record was 37-9 with 23 pins.
Page, a freshman from Orangevale, Calif., upended No. 1-ranked Alli Ragan of King 3-1, 3-2 for the 143-pound crown. Page (32-8) racked up two pins en route to the finals.
“We had nine in the finals,” Randall said. “It was like a dual against the nation. We won the dual because we won six matches. All four seniors finished as all-Americans. All four seniors finished well.
“I can't say enough about my assistant Link Davis. He's a major contributor to our success, and he has been from the get-go.”
Garr, Geltmacher and Hutchison joined Davis, Miller, Roberts and Webster as current Stars qualified to compete in the U.S. Olympic Trials on April 20-23 in Iowa City, Iowa. OCU alum Nicole Woody is also slated to vie for a spot in the Olympics.
