LUBBOCK, Texas - Oklahoma City University held its lead through the second round of the Lady Chaps Invitational to come away as tournament champions on Tuesday at the Rawls Course.
The Stars entered the round with a six-shot lead before shooting 294 on the day to finish the tournament 24 strokes ahead of second-place Lubbock Christian (Texas).
“Today's round was impressive,” OCU coach Marty McCauley said. “I am very proud of the girls for playing well, but even more so for how they represented OCU.”
Jessica Schiele, a junior from Grimsby, North East Lincolnshire, England, followed her 68 from round one with a 71 to finish first overall, eight shots ahead of Anna Schoop of Lubbock Christian.
Schiele sank nine birdies and made par 28 times over two rounds of action.
“Jessica's performance was one of the best individual efforts I've seen as a coach,” McCauley said.
Taylor Howard shot a round two score of 73 to finish third overall for the Stars.
OCU's Kendra Mann shot 74 and Mary Larsh shot 76 to finish tied for seventh overall and Madison Haley finished round two with an 84 to finish 15th overall.
Tanya Tibshraeny played unattached and shot 86 to finish 16th overall.
OCU drained 22 birdies as a team on the par-72 course.
The Stars will return to action in the Oral Roberts Shootout on Oct. 3 at MeadowBrook Country Club in Tulsa, Okla.
