OKLAHOMA CITY – Laura Jones of Oklahoma City University became a three-time NAIA women's golf first-team all-American, while the Stars' Paige Martin also was named a first-team all-American.
Morgan Gay took honorable-mention all-American honors for the second year in a row for NAIA runner-up OCU.
Jones, a junior from Ellesmere Port, Cheshire, England, averaged 77.45 strokes per round in 2009-10. Jones finished third in the NAIA Championships contested last week in Rapid City, S.D., taking all-tournament acclaim for the second time in her career. Jones became the Sooner Athletic Conference individual champion for the second year in a row and took third in the Oklahoma City Star Classic.
Martin, a junior from Ardmore, Okla., recorded a stroke average of 77.88 this season. Martin tied for fourth in the NAIA Championships to be all-tournament and finished as SAC runner-up. Martin also finished fourth in the Oral Roberts Shootout.
Gay, a senior from Lindsay, Okla., compiled 80.00 shots per 18 holes this season. Gay took all-tournament in the NAIA Championships by finishing tied for 11th place. She tied for 10th place in the SAC Championships.
For her two-year Stars career, Gay had an 80.05 stroke average. She posted two top-10 finishes in 15 events. Her career-best result was tied for third in the 2009 SAC Championships, where she earned all-SAC honors.
The Stars captured their eighth consecutive SAC championship and ninth conference crown in 10 years. OCU finished as national runner-up last week to end an unprecedented string of five consecutive NAIA women's golf titles – 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009.
