OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University has announced the signing of soccer standouts Drew Hall of Edmond, Okla., and Ryan Sanders of Broken Arrow, Okla.
The two join a Stars squad that went 15-4-2 and advanced to the championship of the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament.
Hall has been selected to the all-Metro Conference, all-Edmond and all-District 6A-2 teams while playing for Edmond Santa Fe. Hall tallied 12 goals and 11 assists as Santa Fe captured the state championship.
As a junior, he had 10 goals and 10 assists, and as a freshman, he scored eight times and dished out nine assists.
Hall played for OFC ’92, which also won the state club championship. OFC ’92 is coached by OCU assistant coach Billy Martin.
“He is a great athlete and a very versatile player,” Martin said. “He’s a great example of a student-athlete. He’s first or second in his class academically, and he’s starting for the basketball team.
“He has a good chance to be the striker we were missing last year. He can set it up as well as get assists from the forward spot.”
Sanders has been chosen as a team captain as a senior for Broken Arrow High School (Okla.). Sanders became an all-district selection as a junior. A four-year starter, Sanders earned team rookie of the year as a freshman.
Sanders was on the Westside Alliance club team that finished as state runner-up to OFC ’92.
“He can play anywhere defensively,” Martin said. “He’ll bring good athleticism and leadership. There’s a good chance he could be our central defender next year. He can come in as a freshman and make a good impact.”
OCU coach Brian Harvey has amassed the most combined men’s and women’s victories of any coach in NAIA soccer history. He joined the NAIA Hall of Fame as well as the Oklahoma Soccer Association Hall of Fame this year.
