LEBANON, Ill. – Oklahoma City University fell 33-12 to McKendree (Ill.) on Wednesday at the Melvin Price Convocation Center in a clash of top 25-ranked NAIA wrestling squads.
The 15th-ranked Stars went to 3-10, while sixth-ranked McKendree improved to 7-5 in duals.
Cameron Ream of the Stars upended Wade Lowe, the fifth-ranked individual at 133 pounds, by fall in 2:24. Ream, a freshman from Wentzville, Mo., entered as the No. 11 wrestler at 133.
In the premier match of the night, OCU’s Corey Johnson fell 3-2 to Cedric Powell at 285. Johnson, a senior from Oologah, Okla., entered as the NAIA’s sixth-ranked 285-pounder, while Powell was rated fifth.
Nik Turner of OCU won 2-0 over Isaiah Gonzalez at 157. Turner, a junior from Norman, Okla., was ranked fifth in the NAIA.
The Stars’ Kidd Gomez scored a 5-0 victory over A.J. Ciccarelli to begin the dual at 125.
McKendree gained the lead at 11-9 following Ryan Jahn’s fall at 149, then regained the lead once Aaron Winning defeated OCU’s Mark Meyer 12-0 at 165.
OCU competes in the Briar Cliff Open on Feb. 6 in Sioux City, Iowa.
