Stars Open with Win Over No. 12 OWU

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City scored an impressive win to start the season, taking down 12th-ranked Oklahoma Wesleyan in four sets on Thursday.
 
The Stars won 25-17, 25-20, 24-26, 25-20.
 
OCU got 17 kills from Kaylie Marshall and 12 from Grace Smallwood, while Natalie Adams put up 42 assists to pace the offense for the Stars. Smallwood had seven aces on the evening to tie for the fifth-most in OCU volleyball history.
 
Defensively, led with 25 digs, followed by Marshall with 24, Kate Cleofe with 13 and Ryan Leland with a dozen. Erin Mack and Maddie Edwards each had five blocks.
 
OCU raced out to a 13-7 lead in the first set and never looked back.
 
OCU returns to action on Friday, taking on Evangel at 7 p.m. as the Stars Invitational continues.
