Stars Rally for Sweep of MACU

OKLAHOMA CITY – Second-ranked Oklahoma City overcame a couple of sluggish offensive starts to claim a doubleheader sweep over Mid-America Christian on Thursday, 5-0 and 5-4.

OCU needed late-inning heroics to capture the second game, which was OCU's 28th consecutive win.

OCU 5, MACU 0
Brynlee Alsip baffled Mid-America Christian with one of her best starts of the season, striking out nine in her complete-game, three-hit shutout.

The Stars waited until the fourth inning to provide run support but Tara Hoehner scored on an RBI single by Analise Rayburn for the 1- lead in the bottom of the fourth.

OCU tacked on four more in the sixth on RBI singles by Hoehner and Jessica Phares, an RBI fielder's choice by Kaiden Spidell and a run-scoring error.

The Stars had eight singles in the game, including two by Iliana Ashford.

OCU 5, MACU 4
The Evangels got to OCU for two runs in the second and another in the third on a two-run homer and an RBI single by Mia Macias.

MACU starter Gia Reynoso took a perfect game into the fourth before Hoehner wrecked it with a solo home run.

The Evangels went ahead 4-1 in the top of the fifth and took that lead into the sixth before Ashford produced a sacrifice fly and Analise Rayburn knotted the game with her 20th home run of the season – a two-run shot to right.

Gabby Moreno led off the bottom of the seventh with a base hit and moved to second when Phares executed a two-strike sacrifice bunt. Peyton Barrow belted an RBI single back up the middle and Moreno scored easily for the win.

Moreno finished with a team-leading two hits and OCU had seven as a team.

McKenna Snyder got the pitching win, allowing one run in 2.2 innings of relief.

The teams finish the series with a noon doubleheader on Friday.
