Stars Get Pair of SAC Tournament Wins

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City moved to the finals of the OCU Pod of the Sooner Athletic Conference Softball Tournament with run-rule wins over Langston and Texas Wesleyan on Thursday.
 
OCU scored 25 runs on 30 hits in defeating Texas Wesleyan 16-4 and Langston 9-1.
 
The Stars play the winner of TWU and Langston (which play at 1 p.m. on Friday) for the pod title at 3 p.m.

Gabby Moreno got the scoring started during a four-run second inning with a sacrifice fly. Jessica Phares followed up with a successful squeeze bunt to plate Peyton Barrow. Carlee Mollet added an RBI triple and scored on a passed ball.
 
The Stars added two more in the third on an RBI triple by Moreno and an RBI single by Phares.
 
OCU scored on an error in the bottom of the sixth before Tara Hoehner ripped a two-run home run to end the game.
 
The Stars had 12 hits in the game, led by Kaiden Spidell with three. Hadley Gibson and Barrow had two each.
 
Brynlee Alsip got the win, allowing one run over five innings and McKenna Snyder finished up with a scoreless sixth.
 
OCU 16, Texas Wesleyan 4
 
Tara Hoehner had three hits and five RBIs to power the Stars.
 
The Stars jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning on a wild pitch, RBI singles by Barrow, Phares and Mollet.
 
Tara Hoehner and Analise Rayburn hit back-to-back home runs in the second with Hoehner getting a pair of RBIs for a 7-0 lead.
 
OCU went ahead 9-2 in the third on a RBI single by Iliana Ashford and an RBI groundout by Hoehner.
 
The Stars scored seven in the fourth with RBI singles by Mollet and Gibson, a two-run single by Ashford, a two-run double by Hoehner and an RBI single by Moreno.
 
Along with Hoehner, Mollet and Moreno's three hits apiece, the Stars got two hits each from Gibson, Ashford and Barrow. OCU had 18 hits for the game.
