Stars Place Second and Third in Track

WAXAHACHIE, Texas – For the second year in a row, the Oklahoma City women missed the Sooner Athletic Conference Track and Field Championship by a single point.

Nelson's fourth-place finish in the final event, the 4x400, was enough to hold off the Stars, who finished second in the event and second as a team overall with 130 points. The OCU men placed third at 107.

The Stars won four events on Saturday, two by each team.

Erika Pena won the women's 800 meters in 2:17.20 as the Stars scored in the top three places in the event. Isabella Gutierrez was second at 2:20.02 and Isabelle Spiller was third at 2:21.68.

In a happy result for the Readnour twins, Kenzi Readnour placed first in the women's 5000 meters, edging out her sister, Keira Readnour at second in 18:54.90. The side-by-side finish was a mirror image of Thursday's 10K, when Keira edged her sister by five/100ths of a second.

Demarion Dean and Ayenew Devany were men's winners on Saturday. Dean won the 800 in 1:53.43 to lead a four-pronged scoring finish in the event. Alexander Daly was second at 1:54.92, Devany was seventh at 2:01.16 and Cooper Phillips was eighth at 2:02.10.

Devany won the men's 5000 in 15:20.72 and the Stars also scored in the event from fifth place as Jackson Fowler finished in 15:45.72.

Also for the women, Pena, Spiller, Vanessa Perez and Gutierrez scored in that women's 4x400 runner-up finish in 3:57.37. Perez scored in the women's 200 meters at 25.38 for seventh.

Tabytha Roy scored in the 400 hurdles in sixth at 1:08.92. Alexandria Horn was sixth in the women's javelin at 27.87.

Also scoring for the men on Saturday were Daly, Phillips, Fowler and Dean in the men's 4x400 relay, taking fifth at 3:29.19. Daly scored from seventh place in the men's 400 hurdles in 1:08.17.

The Stars won six events on Friday.

Isaiah Smith won the men's high jump at 6-5.5 and Horn scored in the women's discus from sixth at 34.44 for OCU's field event entries.

On the track, Pena and Spiller had a pair of victories each. They teamed up with Kenzi Readnour and Gutierrez to win the 4x800 relay in 9:17.23. Pena also won the women's 1500 in 4:43.36, with Gutierrez also scoring in that event with a second-place 4:44.28. The relay team met the NAIA B standard for nationals.

Devany led the men's team with two SAC titles on Friday, winning the 1500 in 3:59.97 and working with Riley Randall, Daly and Dean to win the 4x800 in 7:34.32, meeting the automatic standard.

Dean and Alexander also scored in the 400 meters. Dean was second at 47.13.6, meeting the NAIA automatic qualifying standard, and Daly was sixth at 48.44.
