Stars Complete Sweep of SCU

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City needed some late-inning magic but completed the sweep of Southwestern Christian with wins of 6-2 and 5-4 on Saturday.

OCU will be the second seed in next week's Sooner Athletics Conference Tournament, hosting at least six games starting on Thursday.

OCU 6, SCU 2

For the first time in the series, OCU scored first, getting and RBI single from Jessica Phares in the bottom of the second for a 1-0 lead.

Analise Rayburn added a two-run home run in the third and Tara Hoehner had a sacrifice fly in the fifth for a 4-0 Stars lead.

Southwestern Christian scored twice in the top of the sixth, but Kaiden Spidell got those runs back with a two-run double in the bottom of the sixth.

Brynlee Alsip went the distance, striking out three and allowing five hits to move to 25-4.

OCU had eight hits, including three by Gabby Moreno.

OCU 5, SCU 4

SCU scored in each of the first three innings to take a 4-0 lead that stood up until OCU plated five runs in the fifth.

Hoehner had an RBI double and Rayburn doubled in two runs to trim the lead to 4-3. Peyton Barrow doubled to tie the score. After Moreno singled Barrow to third, she intentionally got herself into a rundown and deftly avoided a tag that gave Barrow time to score the go-ahead run.

Moreno and Iliana Ashford had two hits each to spearhead the OCU eight-hit offense.

McKenna Snyder tossed 4.2 scoreless innings of relief to get the win.

Times will be announced later on Saturday, but OCU is set to take on Langston on Thursday, while Texas Wesleyan faces Wayland Baptist.
