OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City advanced to the Sooner Athletic Conference final site next weekend in Joplin with two wins on Friday against Wayland Baptist in walk-off fashion.
The Stars won the opener in 11 innings, 5-4, and took the second game with two runs in the bottom of the ninth, 4-3.
OCU 5, WBU 4 (11)
After falling behind 4-0 in the first inning, OCU held the Pioneers scoreless for the next 10 innings and the Pioneers had zero earned runs.
Bauer Brittain pitched eight strong innings and
Nick Anaya got the win, tossing three scoreless innings.
Trent Baker singled in a pair of runs to get OCU on the scoreboard in the fifth inning and
Heath Brown added a squeeze bunt, followed by an
Aiden Alexander RBI single to tie the game in the sixth inning.
Eli Hill doubled to start the 11
th inning for OCU and pinch runner
Gage Geiger took third on a sacrifice bunt by Brown before scoring on a single to right-center by Alexander.
The Stars had 11 hits, led by Hill with four. Alexander, Baker and
Clayton Allen had two each.
OCU 4, WBU 3
Wayland Baptist broke a scoreless tie with a run in the fifth inning but the Stars tied the game in the sixth when Baker stole third and scored on a throwing error.
Cooper Holtorf was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to give the Stars a 2-1 lead in the eight.
WBU scored twice in the top of the ninth for a 3-2 lead but the Stars prevented further damage, gunning out a runner at home on a throw from
Cooper Holtorf in left and relayed to Brown by Allen.
OCU tied the game when
Bayler Weaver scored on a wild pitch and won it on an RBI single by
Wyatt Pace.
The Stars had 10 hits, led by
Brittain Brewer, Baker,
Aiden Van Rensum and Holtorf with two each.
Baker got the win in relief.
The Stars advance to the final site next weekend for a four-team double-elimination tournament.
