This Week in OCU Track and Field

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City opens its outdoor track and field season this weekend at the OBU All-Comers Meet in Shawnee.
 
The meet is on Friday and Saturday, with most running events on Saturday.

Previously: Oklahoma City finished a surprising NAIA Indoor Track and Field Championships in 14th place for the women's team and 25th for the men. OCU brought home 16 All-America honors with Erika Pena getting three of those. Florencia Cabrera and Isabella Gutierrez earned two All-America awards for the women and Dmarion Dean had two for the men. Gutierrez, Cabrera, Isabelle Spiler and Pena placed third in the 4x800 relay in 9:07.52. Pena was sixth in the mile run at 4:53.39 and Kenzi Readnour also earned All-America status with a sixth-place finish in the 5000 meters at 17:29.41. Cabrera, Vanessa Perez, Gutierrez and Pena placed fourth in the distance medley relay at 11:48.12. The OCU women finished 14th with 20 points and the men finished with 10 points Dean was eighth in the 600 meters and joined Brendan Robeaux, Alexander Daly and Hendrick Ramirez for second place and All-America status in the distance medley relay. Ayenew Devany was eighth for All-America honors in the 3000 meters at 8:16.66.
 
Friday: All-American OCU wrestler Omari Smith will make is debut in the shot put Friday at 5 p.m. It is OCU's only Friday event.
 
Saturday: The remainder of the action for OCU occurs on Saturday. For the men, runners Halen Biggs, Alexander Daly, Demarion Dean, Ayenew Devany, Jackson Fowler, Javier Medina, Jacoby Nance, Carson Patten, Cooper Phillips, Riley Randall, Jack Reed, and Braydon Witthorne are all scheduled to compete along with Omari Smith in the javelin and Isaiah Smith in the high jump. Women's runners Makenzi DeHart, Isabella Gutierrez, Vanessa Perez, Keira Readnour, Kenzi Readnour, Tabytha Roy, Emily Schneider, Isabelle Spiller and thrower Alexandria Horn are also scheduled for Saturday events.
 
Home Away From Home: OCU owns two facility records at Oklahoma Baptist. The men's 4x800 relay team set the facility record of 7:45.64 in 2015. Zouhair Talbi set the men's 8K record of 24:21.70 at OBU in 2021.
