MACU Sweeps OCU in Pivotal SAC Series

OKLAHOMA CITY – Entering Saturday, Mid-America Christian University and Oklahoma City University were playing for sole possession of second place in the Sooner Athletic Conference standings. Texas Wesleyan University created more distance between the Stars and the Evangels. After dropping game one of the series on Friday night, OCU sought a bounce-back Saturday to win or salvage this weekend's series.

Game 1
MACU 12, Oklahoma City 3

Oklahoma City struggled to score runs in game one on Saturday. Conversely, MACU amassed offense early in the ballgame; the Evangels extended their lead to 4-0 in the top of the fourth inning when Jahzeel Groetelaers hit a home run to left field. The home run hit by MACU's catcher was the first of three for the Evangels in game one.

Freshman Clayton Allen drove in Aiden Alexander to cut the MACU lead to three runs during the bottom of the fourth. MACU blew the game open in the fifth and sixth innings, scoring eight runs over the two frames.

Stars' starting pitcher Bauer Brittain finished with five innings pitched while giving up six earned runs and striking out six Evangels. Bauer wore the loss and now owns a 3-2 record in 2026. MACU's ace, Ibrahim Gonzalez, picked up the win in game one.

Game 2
MACU 6, Oklahoma City 4

Unlike game one, game two produced the majority of the runs within the first three innings. Both teams combined for seven runs, MACU strung together two crooked numbers in consecutive innings after OCU took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the opening frame. The Evangels answered in a big way, scoring five unanswered runs; OCU narrowed the MACU lead to 5-2 when the Evangel's starting pitcher committed a balk with a Star on third base.

Two innings later, Julio Felix extended the MACU lead to 6-2 when he doubled down the left field line. However, OCU didn't give up. In the bottom of the seventh inning, the Stars inched within two runs after Cooper Holtord drove in two base runners with a double.

With two outs in the final inning, MACU brought in their closer, Liam Taft, to finish the job. With Wyatt Pace representing the tying run at home plate, the Stars' first baseman grounded out to MACU's shortstop on a 1-2 count to end game two.
