Stars Open Postseason on Wednesday

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University begins the men's basketball postseason this week, hosting the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament
 
OCU got the fourth seed and plays at 2 p.m. on Wednesday against fifth-seeded Texas Wesleyan.

Previously: Oklahoma City lost at John Brown, 82-76, to finish the regular season on Saturday. OCU will be the fourth seed in next week's Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament. Jonas Carlisle led OCU with 16 points while SaVaughn Smith and Alphonse Muteba scored 10 each. Smith led OCU with nine rebounds.
 
Tournament History: OCU is in the SAC Tournament for the first time since 2022-23. The Stars opened that tournament with a 90-80 win over Texas Wesleyan before losing in the semifinals to Wayland Baptist
 
Stars vs. TWU: The Stars split with Texas Wesleyan during the regular season, winning 94-93 in Fort Worth and falling at home, 83-74. Five OCU players averaged double figures in scoring in the series, led by Brian Alexander at 17 and Beau Tranter at 16.5. Jonas Carlisle averaged 14.5, SaVaughn Smith averaged 11.5 points and eight rebounds and Hykeem Hancock had 11 points in the first meeting.
 
Stars at Home: OCU is 11-3 at home this season with losses to Texas Wesleyan, Nelson and John Brown. Jonas Carlisle averages 16.4 points per home game, followed by Brian Alexander at 13.7 and Beau Tranter at 10.9. Alphonse Muteba averages 8.7 points, 7.3 rebounds and 2.1 blocked shots per home game.
 
About TWU: The Rams are 19-8 overall and matched OCU at 15-7 in the SAC after beating Central Christian in overtime on Saturday. Montez Young Jr. and Daylan Hamilton averaged 144 points each to lead the Rams. Young leads the team with 8.2 rebounds per game.  
 
Tournament Schedule: Nelson is the top seed for the tournament, followed by Langston, Wayland Baptist, OCU, Texas Wesleyan, Mid-America Christian, John Brown and USAO.
