This Week in OCU Men's Basketball

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City tries to extend its season-long Sooner Athletic Conference road winning streak this week out west.
 
OCU, 5-0 in SAC road games, plays at Oklahoma Panhandle State at 8 p.m. on Thursday and at Wayland Baptist at 4 p.m. on Saturday.

Previously: It took two overtimes, but Oklahoma City overcame a sluggish start to beat Central Christian 71-68 on Saturday and move into a tie for first place in the Sooner Athletic Conference. Jonas Carlisle and Brian Alexander both had double-doubles with 19 points. Carlisle had 11 rebounds and Alexander added 10. Hopps had 14 points. Alexander had six assists and four steals.
 
Stars on the Road: OCU is unbeaten in five conference road games this season and 5-1 overall on the road this season. In those five SAC games away from home, Brian Alexander averages 20.6 points and Jonas Carlisle averages 20.2. The Stars are shooting 40 percent from three-point range in SAC road games this season. Alexander averages five assists and 2.2 steals in those five games.
 
Trending: Over the last four games, four Stars are averaging double-digits in scoring. Brian Alexander leads that group at 17.3 points per game, followed by Jonas Carlisle (13.5), Jackson Hopps (13.3) and Beau Tranter (12.8)

Our Best So Far: Brian Alexander's 29-point game at Mid-America Christian stands as the OCU season high. Alphonse Muteba had a season-best 12 rebounds against Haskell and six blocks against Langston. The season high for assists by a Star is eight by Jonas Carlisle against Ozarks.
 
Scoring: Jonas Carlisle leads OCU in scoring this season at 16.9 points per game, followed by Brian Alexander at 16.5. Carlisle has converted all of his last 19 free throws and hasn't missed one since Dec. 4 against John Brown. Beau Tranter leads the team with his 82.7 free throw percentage. Carlisle leads the team with 43 three-pointers. Alphonse Muteba is shooting 72.6 percent from the field.
 
Rebounds: Jonas Carlisle leads the team with 6.8 rebounds per game and has 75 defensive boards. Alphonse Muteba has a team-best 45 offensive rebounds and averages 6.3 rebounds per game.
 
Defensive Leaders: Alphonse Muteba has 20 blocked shots this season. Brian Alexander has 30 steals. Last year's season leader in steals for OCU finished with 29.
 
History with OPSU: Oklahoma Panhandle State ended a four-game losing streak in the series in Goodwell last season, 74-71.
 
Checking in on the Aggie: OPSU is 3-11 overall and 1-8 in the SAC this season after a 78-74 loss at Mid-America Christian on Saturday. Christian Campbell, a 6-4 guard, leads the team at 18.4 points per game. The Aggies are 2-6 at home this season.
 
History with WBU: The Pioneers have won the last six games in the series. OCU last won in Plainview in 2023, 88-82.
 
Scouting the Pioneers: WBU is 11-4 overall and 5-4 in the SAC after a n 83-78 win at USAO on Saturday. The Pioneers are 3-2 at home and host Southwestern Christian on Thursday. Jamari Lawrence,  6-2 guard, leads Wayland Baptist with 23.2 points per game.
