How It Happened
Early and often was the narrative of the OCU offense Saturday in Conway. Two goals nine seconds apart within the first three minutes of competition set the tone for the Stars' victory against the Mustangs. At the two-minute mark,
Aynslee Duffy found the back of the net on an unassisted goal; the score was Duffy's first for her OCU career. Nine seconds later, Rose State Transfer,
Kayleigh Haygood, netted her second goal of the season and in an OCU uniform. Adding to the first half onslaught were
Ashley Russell and
Inka Silz, giving Oklahoma City a 4-0 lead heading into half.
During the second half, OCU generated even more shots than they did in the first. Three second-half goals cemented the victory into place for Coach
Billy Martin's squad.
Yami Ponce connected on an
Amelia Horsford assist in the 56th minute. In the later stages of the game, Silz netted her second goal of the match while
Saizlee Carlton recorded her third goal of 2025.
Spreading the Wealth
Okla. City has received offensive production from multiple players so far this season. There is a two-way tie for both first and second most goals scored for OCU;
Yami Ponce and
Amelia Horsford each have three goals scored, while
Saizlee Carlton and Stars newcomer
Kayleigh Haygood have each netted two goals. Horsford and Carlton are tied for most points contributed (7). Six different Stars have recorded an assist in the first four games played.
A First for Many
Multiple Stars recorded statistical firsts for the season. As aforementioned, Duffy recorded a career first, Silz recorded her first goal of 2025, Horsford collected her first assist of the season, and
Ashley Russell scored for the first time this season. Furthermore,
Wachipi Hamelryck and
Jadyn Basler both tallied their first assists of the season.
Game Notes
- Okla. City has hit the 20-shot mark three times this year.
- In back-to-back games, the Stars have only surrendered one shot.
