Stars Claim Fourth Consecutive Sweep

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City claimed its fourth consecutive Sooner Athletic Conference sweep, taking down Langston on Saturday.

The Stars have flipped the script after starting league play at 0-5.

"We've been working really hard to find a way to play consistently," said OCU Head Coach Kristen Coventon. "I think that's been one of our issues. And these last four games, I think we've done a very good job. Even that last set, we made a bunch of errors, but then we found a way to fight through and then get back to that consistency."

The win put the Stars at 4-5 in the league with a head of momentum going into the last two matches in the first half.

"I think it's huge for us," Coventon said." We really needed to have this four-game stretch going into the last part of conference, playing John Brown and College of the Ozarks, who are two good teams, and then flipping and going to the second round of conference. I think it's huge for us to have that momentum going into the second round of conference."

The Stars held Langston to a negative attack percentage for the match.

OCU used a pair of 4-0 runs in the first set to take control and Kaylie Marshall closed it out with a kill.

It was a 10-1 spree by the Stars that did in the Lions in the second set. Erin Mack had two kills and Marshall worked with Maddie Edwards for a pair of blocks to highlight the run.

The Lions led by as many as six in the third set and still had an 18-15 lead before the Stars pieced together a 5-1 run to take a 20-19 lead. Marshall had two kills and Layla Olvera delivered the lead with an ace. LU tied it at 22-22 but Marshall and Grace Smallwood had kills in a match-clinching 3-0 run.

Smallwood led OCU with 11 kills while Marshall added nine. Natalie Adams had 32 assists. Adams, who had seven assists on Tuesday and three on Friday, added three more to her total while Olvera racked up five.

Defensively, Edwards was in on four blocks. Kate Cleofe led the team with 14 digs with Marshall adding 11.
