This Week in OCU Volleyball

 
OKLAHOMA CITY – After playing 10 of their first 12 matches away from home, Oklahoma City returns to the Freede Center this week for three contests.
 
The Stars host Southwestern Christian at 6 p.m. on Tuesday and Central Christian at 6 p.m. on Friday before taking on Langston in a 1 p.m. contest on Saturday.

OCU Notebook
Last Match: The Stars picked up their first conference win with a 3-0 sweep at USAO. Grace Smallwood led OCU with 11 kills and Natalie Adams added 31 assists. Maddie Edwards had five block assists with Adams adding four. Kaylie Marshall contributed a team-best 17 digs. OCU improved to 4-8 overall and 1-5 in conference.
 
Milestone in Waiting: Coach Kristen Coventon came into the season with 195 career coaching wins – 109 of those at Oklahoma City. She picked up her 100th win of her Stars era at home against USAO on Sept. 28. Her win total now stands at 199 for her career and 113 at OCU.
 
Last Four: Over the last four matches, the Stars have averaged 12 kills per set, led by Grace Smallwood at 4.14. Smallwood also second in digs at 3.50 during those two weeks. Kate Cleofe has emerged as the digs leader for those two weeks at 3.62 per set.
 
In League: The Stars have played five of the top six teams in the SAC standings and this week square off against three teams that OCU needs to defeat to build momentum. SCU (0-6 in the SAC and 0-9 overall), Central Christian (0-7, 2-10) and Langston (3-4, 7-9) all visit the Freede Center.
 
Grace Kills: Grace Smallwood leads the Stars and is second in the Sooner Athletic Conference with 3.51 kills per set. She leads the SAC with 165 total kills this season.
 
With the Assist:
Natalie Adams leads the Sooner Athletic Conference with 9.47 assists per game this season. She had 3 assists in the three-set win on Saturday against USAO in Chickasha.

Access Denied: Marina Kalajdzic and Maddie Edwards have been strong up front for the OCU defense. Kalajdzic has 12 solos and 35 total blocks while Edwards has 34. They are sixth and 10th,  respectively, in the SAC at 0.81 and 0.72 blocks per set.
 
Digs Rising:
The Stars have three players averaging over three digs per set and two are hitters. Grace Smallwood checks in at 3.32 and Kaylie Marshall averages 3.3 per set. Freshman libero Katelyn Stephenson averages 3.02 per set. Kate Cleofe is on the rise and averaging 2.76.
 
Aces:
Ryan Leland leads OCU with 15 aces this season. Katelyn Stephenson has been strong with the serve with 13 aces this season. Natalie Adams has 11.
 
Receivers:
Kaylie Marshall, Grace Smallwood and Katelyn Stephenson have been on the receiving end of 756 of the opposition's 960 serves this season. They've handled those at a 94.9 percent clip with Stephenson leading at .955.
 
History:
The Stars are a combined 47-1 against this week's opponents and had 3-0 sweeps in the six matches last year against Southwestern Christian, Central Christian and Langston. The Stars are 21-1 in the all-time series against SCU, 15-0 against CCU and 11-0 against Langston.
 
Scouting SCU:
The Eagles are in the throes of a 25-set losing streak with a 0-9 overall and 0-6 Sooner Athletic Conference record after a 3-0 loss at Mid-America Christian on Saturday. Emery Hulme leads SCU with 1.68 kills per set.
 
Scouting the Tigers: Central Christian has a 24-set losing streak rolling and is 2-10 overall and 0-7 in the Sooner Athletic Conference. CCU is coming off a 3-0 loss at home against Oklahoma Panhandle State. Katirya Vergara leads the Tigers with 2.81 kills per set.
 
Scouting Langston: After a 3-1 loss at home to Wayland Baptist, Langston is 7-9 overall and 3-4 against the Sooner Athletic Conference. Ayonna Moore leads the Lions with 2.6 kills per set.
