Women's Soccer Downs Undefeated Bellevue in Nebraska

BELLEVUE, Neb. –  Oklahoma City University women's soccer continued its hot streak during Sept. with a win against the Bruins of Bellevue. Prior to the match, both teams entered the competition undefeated and without a blemish on their respective records. Okla. City has earned wins in back-to-back games against formerly undefeated opponents.

'10- Yami Ponce (7)
'49- Chloi Thurman (3)
'56- Choli Thurman (4); Assisted by Amelia Horsford (3)
'81- Yami Ponce (8)
'88- Ali Daugherty (4)

How It Happened
During the first half, the Stars did not take long to find themselves, and their offense settled in. OCU scored a goal within the first 10 minutes of a game for the fourth time this season. Okla. City netted one goal in the first 45 minutes while adding to their goal total with four scores in the second half. The Stars' leading goal scorer, Yami Ponce, secured a 1-0 lead for OCU when she beat the Bruins' defense and then made a move on the goalie. Ponce now has eight goals in 2025.

Striking Resemblance
The defense of OCU can very well win matches for them on its own, but the Stars did not rest on their defensive laurels; instead, they chose to unleash an offensive air raid. Less than five minutes into the second half, senior Chloi Thurman scored after Bellevue turned the ball over in the box. The product of Westmoore High School was able to turn and fire a shot that connected with the back of the net. Thurman then scored her second goal of the match on a pass from the slot from Amelia Horsford 11 minutes into the second half. The assist was Horsford's third of the season.

Roughly 13 minutes after Thurman's second goal of the contest, Ponce recorded a brace of her own with another successful strike. Ponce's second goal of the game provided OCU with a 4-0 lead right before the 70th minute.

Sealing the deal and the victory for Okla. City was freshman, Ali Daugherty, who connected on her fourth goal of the season in the 88th minute.

Game Notes
  • OCU is now 2-2-1 against Bellevue in their matchup history.
  • The Stars had two players record a brace.
  • Okla. City has not started 6-0 since their 8-0 start in 2012 when they finished 20-2.

What's on the Radar
OCU will return home to Brian Harvey Field to play Hesston College on Tuesday, Sept. 23. The match is set to start at 3:30 p.m. CDT.
