OKLAHOMA CITY - The Oklahoma City men's golf team picked up another first-place finish to continue their spring season with a dominant performance at Gaillardia Country Club. Not only did the Stars win the team title by 44 strokes, but
Tres Hill also claimed the individual title. The OCU golf team, which finds itself ranked in the Top-3, showcased why that high ranking is next to their name—no team in the field of competition came close to the Stars in the team leaderboard at any point during the Kyle Blaser Invitational. OCU Star
Tres Hill was the only golfer in the field to post a score under par with his 71.
The senior from Elk City has now collected two straight individual titles. Last month, during the Texas Invitational, Hill finished 10-under in Prosper, TX. The Oklahoma native strongly finished the Kyle Blaser Invitational, posting a 70 and a 71 in rounds two and three. Hill collected 38 pars, seven more than the second-place golfer in that stat category. Tres also finished first for par three scores and third for par four scoring.
Four other Stars,
Christian Yanovitch,
Lorenzo Santinelli,
Carter Ray, and
Michael Robson, finished in the Top-10 alongside Hill.
Yanovitch, a junior from Griswold, Conn., placed third and finished eight over par with a to-par score of 224. The OCU junior finished tied for third in birdies scored.
Finishing tied for fourth on the individual leaderboard was Santinelli, who recorded back-to-back 74s in rounds two and three, which helped elevate him from sixth place entering the final round of play. Santinelli stormed back after shooting six over par in the opening round and made key adjustments as he navigated the back two rounds.
Carter Ray and
Michael Robson each finished the invitational by rising up the leaderboard. Ray, a freshman who participated as an independent golfer, rose five spots to catapult himself into the Top-10. At the same time, senior Robson climbed one place to finish tied for eighth with two other participants.
Before the last round of play, Phillip Perzl found himself in 18
th. His round three score of 74 helped him jump up to 12
th place. Perzl solidified a Top-15 finish for himself and concluded the tournament in the Top-5 for multiple stat categories. The freshman from Munich also collected an eagle in the third round on the last hole, a par five.
