Curry's perfect shooting night send Stars over Aggies

GOODWELL, Okla. - The Oklahoma City Women's Basketball team pulled away in the third quarter of Thursday night's contest against Oklahoma Panhandle State as the Stars earned its second consecutive victory to remain in the top eight of the Sooner Athletic Conference standings. 

TOP PERFORMERS

STAR OF THE SHOW: Freshman sharpshooter Brooke Curry had the hot hand of the night with a perfect outing from the floor scoring 10 points on 4-of-4 shooting while going 2-for-2 from downtown. Curry reached double-figures for the seventh time this season while sinking multiple threes for the 13th game this year and the third time over the last four games. 

STAT OF THE GAME: Oklahoma City tied its second-highest amount of free throws made in a game this season as the Stars shot 19-for-25 from the line. OCU tied its number from the contest against Nelson back on Jan. 16 where the Stars shot 19-for-20 while falling four short of its season-best 23-of-31 from the stripe which came against UNT-Dallas on Jan. 18. 

FIRST QUARTER: Panhandle saw its last lead of the night come with 6:05 to play just before Ray Osborn put the Stars in front with 4:41 to go. Osborn's shot ignited a 12-4 run to close the quarter while the Aggies were held to just nine points in the period while scoring only one basket in the final three minutes of play. 

SECOND QUARTER: OPSU was able to trim the deficit down to three midway through the second quarter before another big run by Oklahoma City gave the Stars a double-digit lead after stringing along a 9-2 run as the Aggies fell into another scoring drought seeing just two points in over five minutes while Osborn and Amaya Gordon combined for eight of the 15 points in the quarter for OCU. 

THIRD QUARTER: Out of the locker room Oklahoma City boasted its highest scoring period of the night with 21 points as Gordon led the way with eight in eight minutes of action as a 10-2 run drove the Stars lead up to 17 points at the quarters end. 

FOURTH QUARTER: Oklahoma Panhandle State kept themselves in it with 21 points of its own in the quarter bringing the deficit to as low as 11. Raegan Travis and Lauren Rowan combined for 10 of the OCU 17 points in the quarter as Rowan scored the last five points of the game to secure the 69-56 victory. 

GAME NOTES
  • Oklahoma City wins its second straight as the Stars hold down the eighth spot in the SAC standings with a conference record of 10-10 along with an overall record of 10-14. 
  • Amaya Gordon tied a game-high 16 points while tabbing her seventh double-digit scoring night in the last eight games. Gordon put together her second game in a row going 100% from the line with a 6-of-6 shooting night from the stripe after following up Saturday's game going 7-of-7. 
  • Raegan Travis finished with double-digits for the third time over the last four games while scoring in double-figures for the sixth time this season. 
  • Oklahoma City dominated inside with 34 points in the paint while coming away with 18 points off turnovers. 
  • OCU sweeps the season-series over the Aggies after previously winning back on Dec. 5 by a score of 82-28. 
NEXT TIME OUT: Oklahoma City will remain out west as the Stars take on Wayland Baptist in Plainview, Texas on Saturday afternoon at 2:00 PM.
