OCU falls at OKWU in Midweek Contest

BARTLESVILLE, Okla. — The Oklahoma Wesleyan Eagles delivered a commanding 14-4 victory over the Oklahoma City Stars in a seven-inning contest on Tuesday afternoon. A series of big innings, including a six-run fourth, propelled the Eagles to a decisive win.

Game Summary
Oklahoma Wesleyan jumped out to an early lead when R. Morgan singled and later scored on a base hit from J. Marcial, making it 1-0. In the second, the Eagles added four runs, highlighted by C. Hickey's solo home run to left field and back-to-back RBI doubles from J. Marcial and L. Antigua. OKWU scored one more in the third extending its lead to 6-0 before breaking the game open with a six-run fourth inning. The rally began with a leadoff walk, followed by a two-run double from J. Marcial. Later, R. Morgan plated two more runs with a single up the middle. In the fifth, Oklahoma City responded with a three-run surge, powered by a Jeffery Martz's towering three-run homer to left, trimming the deficit to 12-3. Nic Bennett added a solo home run in the same frame to make it 12-4. Oklahoma Wesleyan finished off the day with a run in each of the final two innings to cap off a day of scoring in each of the six frames they came to bat to slam the door shut with a 14-4 victory. 

Game Notes

  • Trent Kiraly put together a 2-for-4 day to extend his hitting streak to five games. All five games of Kiraly's hit streak have been multi-hit games and has batted .722 (13-for-18) during that span. 
  • Nic Bennett tabbed his first multi-hit game after making his fourth start of the season at the DH spot. Bennett belted his first home run of the season while adding his fifth RBI of the year. 
  • Barrett Daniel extended his hitting streak to six straight games going 1-for-4. Daniel kept his on-base streak alive on Tuesday moving it to 14 games. 
  • Jeffery Martz batted in three of the four OCU home runs during a 1-for-3 day at the plate. Martz continues to stay hot with his team-leading third homer of the year extending his on base streak to nine games while scoring for the sixth straight game.
