Oklahoma City came up empty in the first inning despite a promising start. Leadoff hitter
Hunter Lenochan flew out to right, and after
Aiden Van Rensum reached on a single, the Stars couldn't advance him further, leaving him stranded.
In the bottom of the first,
Andrew Limbaugh worked around a leadoff single, retiring the next three batters and striking out one to escape trouble. That would become a recurring theme for the Oklahoma City ace, who routinely pitched out of jams with runners aboard.
The Stars' offense showed some life in the third, as catcher Jeffery Martz worked a walk and advanced to second on a groundout. But once again, Texas Wesleyan's defense and pitching held firm, retiring
Trent Kiraly on a flyout to end the threat.
The game's lone run came in the bottom of the fifth. A leadoff double by Texas Wesleyan's Flores set the Rams up. After a sacrifice bunt moved the runner to third, a sacrifice fly to right field brought home the game's only run. Limbaugh limited the damage, retiring the next hitter to keep it 1-0.
Oklahoma City threatened immediately in the top of the sixth when
Aiden Alexander was hit by a pitch to lead off the frame but a double-play grounder wiped out the momentum, and the Stars couldn't cash in.
In the seventh, down to their final three outs,
Barrett Daniel led off with a single, giving Oklahoma City hope. Pinch hitter
Eli Hill followed but flew out to left and Lenochan lifted a fly ball to center, ending the game and leaving the tying run stranded.
Despite taking the loss, Limbaugh was excellent on the mound. The lefty went six strong innings, allowing just one run on six hits while striking out six. He consistently pitched out of trouble, holding Texas Wesleyan to 1-for-7 with runners in scoring position.
Oklahoma City's lineup struggled to generate consistent offense, managing just four hits—all singles. The Stars' hitters combined for just two walks and struck out five times. Their best scoring chance came in the sixth, but the double play snuffed out any rally.
