Game Summary

Oklahoma City (4-6) brought the lumber in a frigid Monday night slugfest, exploding for 15 runs across the fourth and fifth innings to bury Sterling (4-5) in a 19-4 rout.

Jeff Martz got the party started with a two-run moonshot, and a Sterling miscue on a Barrett Daniel single made it 3-0 after one. The fourth inning saw Aiden Van Rensum rip a two-run triple before Jack Johnson delivered the knockout punch—a towering three-run blast—to cap a six-run frame.

The Stars didn't let up, following with a nine-run fifth, fueled by a barrage of bases-loaded walks before Hunter Lenochan's sac fly pushed the lead to a staggering 18-0 advantage. Sterling finally broke up the no-hit bid in the sixth with a Jace Phillips single, followed by Joshua Garcia's two-run knock to get the Warriors on the board.

Trent Kiraly answered with a solo shot—his first of the year—highlighting a five-hit performance. Sterling tacked on a pair in the seventh, but the damage was long done as OCU ran away with the victory in dominant fashion.

Game Notes

  • Oklahoma City saw its largest margin of victory since last beating Sterling 18-3 a season ago on Feb. 20. The 19 runs are the most scored by the Stars since beating Central Christian 19-1 on Apr. 29, 2023.

  • Trent Kiraly went 5-for-5 with a home run, two doubles, four runs scored and four RBI as he tallied the first five-hit game of his career and the first by an OCU player since Chad Pike against Concordia on Feb. 12, 2023.

  • Jack Johnson 2-for-3 with his second home run of the season to go along with three RBI and two run scored. Johnson tabbed his first multi-hit game and multi-RBI game of the season.

  • Jeff Martz joined Kiraly and Johnson with at least three RBI as Martz knocked his first career home run in an OCU uniform while scoring two runs in the contest and reaching base for the fifth straight game.

  • Barrett Daniel kept his on-base streak alive by reaching in all 10 games this season. Daniel finished the day 1-for-2 and scored for the fifth time in the last six games.

  • After seeing his eight-game hitting streak snapped last weekend, Aiden Van Rensum bounced back with a 1-for-3 day tabbing his first career triple while earning his second multi-RBI game of the year.

  • Starting pitcher Andrew Limbaugh made his second start of the season recording three outstanding innings of shutout ball. Limbaugh fanned seven of the 10 batters he has faced, the most strikeouts by a Stars pitcher this season.

  • Jacob Burkett and Austin Worley shared similar lines as both went one inning without giving up a run or hit while Worley picked up one strikeout and earned the first win of his career.
