Stars Move to 3-0 in SAC with Win at MACU

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City moved to 3-0 in the Sooner Athletic Conference with a 94-66 victory at Mid-America Christian University on Saturday.

For the first time since the 2006-07 NAIA championship season, the Stars have won their first three SAC road games.

MACU led by as many as seven points in the first half but Jonas Carlisle sank a three-pointer to tie the game at 16-16 and the Stars never trailed again.

OCU played a pesky half-court defense with disruptive tips and steals resulting in transition baskets. Brian Alexander scored six points in an 8-0 run to give the Stars a 33-22 lead with 7:10 remaining in the first half.

The first-half lead peaked at 18 points late in the period.

MACU got no closer than 13 points in the second half and the Stars grabbed their largest lead with Lawrence Taylor Jr. knocked down a three-pointer with 26 seconds left for a 92-66 lead and followed it up with a dunk 13 seconds later for the final margin.

Alexander led the Stars with 29 points to go with five assists, five rebounds and two steals. Jonas Carlisle added a double-double, getting 23 points and 11 rebounds.

Hykeem Hancock scored 14 points off the bench and SaVaughn Smith and Alphonse Muteba added 10 points each.

OCU shot 51 percent from the field and converted 14 of 29 three-point attempts.

Now 5-3 overall and 3-0 in the SAC, the Stars step outside of conference action on Tuesday, hosting Haskell and 6 p.m.
