This Week in OCU Men's Basketball

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City men's basketball has a three-game week starting Monday with a neutral-court game against LSU-Shreveport at 7 p.m. The Stars also travel to the Cattle Classic this weekend to take on host Concordia on Friday before a rematch with Hastings on Saturday.
 
OCU plays Concordia at 6 p.m. and Hastings at 4.
 
OCU Notebook
Good Start: The Stars are off to a 2-0 start for just the second time in the post-Covid era. OCU won its first six games last season.
 
Last Game: Jonas Carlisle led the Stars to a 91-81 win over Hastings on Friday, getting 18 points and 10 rebounds. Destin Jenkins scored 16 and Brian Alexander and Jackson Hopps added 14 apiece. SaVaughn Smith had a team-leading five assists.
 
High Scoring: The Stars average 105 points per game, thanks largely to their 119-point season opener. OCU is shooting 50 percent from the field and 74 percent from the free throw line.
 
Double-Figs: Through two games, six Stars are averaging double-figures in scoring. Jackson Hopps averages 15 points per game with Jonas Carlisle right behind at 14.5. Brian Alexander averages 12.5, Alphonse Muteba is getting 12 per game, Destin Jenkins averages 11.5 and SaVaughn Smith checks in at 10 points per game. Hopps has been getting his points as the sixth man with the other five playing as starters.
 
Quality Shots: Alphonse Muteba (83.3) and Jackson Hopps (73.3) have been a huge part of OCU's high field goal percentage. All 12 of Muteba's shots have been inside the arch while Hopps is a 50-percent shooter from three-point range Hopps is shooting 88.9 percent from inside the arch. Hopps also is five of five from the free throw line this season.
 
Picks: The Stars force 14 turnovers per game and Jonas Carlisle has been a good part of that, averaging 2.5 steals per game. Jackson Hopps and Beau Tranter have three steals apiece.
 
Rejection: OCU averages five blocked shots per game. Alphonse Muteba averages two per game and has four this season. Destin Jenkins and Jonas Carlisle have two each.
 
Ball Sharing: Averaging 18.5 assists per game, the Stars have nobody averaging more than four assists. Brian Alexander leads the team with seven assists and Beau Tranter checks in with six.
 
Scouting the Pilots: LSUS is receiving points in the poll and blew out Wiley in its season opener 94-50. Four different Pilot had 14 points with Hayden Brittingham also adding eight rebounds as a reserve.
 
Scouting Concordia: Concordia is 1-2 on the season after a neutral court loss to Wayland Baptist on Saturday, 75-72. Sophomore guard Dane Jacobson leads the Bulldogs with 13.7 points per game.
 
Scouting Hastings: After losing to the Stars, Hastings is now 0-3. Junior guard Ben Boudreau is averaging 18.3 points per game.
