OCU Blanks Central Christian 3-0

MCPHERSON, KAN.– Friday afternoon, Oklahoma City completed its regular season play for the 2025 season. The Stars traveled to the Sunflower State to take on the Tigers of Central Christian College. OCU and CCC were playing a rescheduled match from earlier in October that was rained out. In clean-sheet fashion, OCU recorded shutout number 11 against the Tigers on Friday with a 3-0 victory.

OCU 3, CCC 0

7'- Chloi Thurman (5); Assisted by Kayleigh Haygood (10)
23'- Piper Nichols (1)
58'- Piper Nichols (2); Assisted by Abby Russell (4)

How It Happened
The Stars dominated the first half, as the Oklahoma City defense allowed zero shots by the CCC offense. OCU created 21 first-half shots against the Tigers' defense and scored the first goal of the match in under 10 minutes of play. Kayleigh Haygood assisted on Chloi Thurman's goal-scoring strike early in the first half; the netted goal was Thurman's fifth of the season. Haygood is the assists leader for the Sooner Athletic Conference with 10. Nearly 17 minutes later, Piper Nichols scored her first goal of the 2025 season on an unassisted strike that found the back of the net.

Throughout the game, OCU controlled possession time and the ball; after the intermission, Oklahoma City immediately began taking shots and softening CCC's defense. Before Nichols scored her second goal of the game and season, the Stars' offense recorded two shots and a corner kick in rapid succession. Nichols paid the Star's efforts off when Abby Russell found her for a scoring opportunity.

With a 3-0 lead, Oklahoma City played clock control to hold onto a shutout victory. Ultimately, OCU allowed three shots in the second half, but Candela Blanco stayed true between the posts and saved the lone shot she faced on goal. The 11 shutouts OCU has amassed this season are the most by the Stars since 2012, when Oklahoma City notched 17 shutouts.
