Last second shot hands OCU its fourth straight loss

CHICKASHA, Okla. - The Oklahoma City Women's Basketball team dropped its fourth straight contest on Saturday afternoon after a corner three with 2.7 seconds remaining by Science & Arts to hand the Stars a 58-55 loss inside Drover Fieldhouse. 

TOP PERFORMERS

STAT OF THE GAME: Amaya Gordon led both teams with a game-high 17 points on an efficient 8-of-13 shooting from the field. Gordon filled up the stat sheet with five rebounds, three steals and tied a season-high with three blocks. 

FIRST QUARTER: Down 6-4 in the opening three minutes of play, Oklahoma City went out in front with a 10-0 run that included six Stars scoring in the quarter while freshman sharpshooter Brooke Curry capped off the run with her first triple of the day before USAO converted a three-point play to finish the period 14-9 in favor of OCU. 

SECOND QUARTER: In the followed 10 minutes Oklahoma City put up its highest scoring quarter with 17 as the Stars captured its largest lead of the first half of 11 on a pair of free throws by Akajia Handsom who led the quarter with five points. 

THIRD QUARTER: Coming out of the locker room the two sides remained balanced in the scoring attack as Ray Osborn sank a jumper to give Oklahoma City its biggest advantage of the afternoon at 13 points less than three minutes in. USAO began to climb back in it with a 14-2 run led by Franka Kraus who nailed back-to-back threes to cut the deficit to one. To close out the quarter, OCU strung together an 8-0 to gain back a nine point lead into the final quarter. 

FOURTH QUARTER: Oklahoma City's offense hit a wall in the fourth experiencing a five minute scoring drought along with just one field goal that came in the last three minutes which came from Amaya Gordon with 11 seconds left to tie the game at 55. Coming down the floor on the last possession, Evangelia Davlakou used a step-back three with 2.7 seconds remaining that gave the Drovers the three-point victory after outscoring OCU 20-8 in the fourth quarter. 

GAME NOTES
  • After falling for the fourth consecutive time out, Oklahoma City moves to 5-10 overall and 5-6 in conference play. 
  • Oklahoma City shot 36.8% from the field along with a 2-of-12 day from beyond the arc with both threes coming from Brooke Curry who finished the day with six points. 
  • Ray Osborn followed behind Amaya Gordon with eight points on the day to tie her season-high from the season-opener against Concordia. 
  • Raegan Travis put up five points to go along with a team-high eight boards, her second-highest rebound count of the year. 
  • Science & Arts earns its seventh straight victory over Oklahoma City as the Stars still remain in front 30-8 in the all-time series since 2006.
NEXT TIME OUT: Oklahoma City travels to College of the Ozarks for the first time ever on Monday night, Jan. 6 at 6:00 in Point Lookout, Mo.
